Two of the best drivers in Quebec, Pascal Berube and Stephane Brosseau, are in a hotly-contested battle for leading driver status at Hippodrome 3R this season.
Currently, Berube leads Brosseau, 25 to 24 wins and the last couple of weekends both drivers have excelled. On Friday at 3R, Brosseau added one win, but Berube came up with a driving double to maintain his one-win lead in the driver standings.
Come this Sunday, both drivers will again be in action. Berube has the slight edge as he has drives in eight of the 10 races while Brosseau is only listed to drive in five races.
Trainer Mandy Archer had a productive Thursday at Rideau Carleton Raceway thanks to a four-win performance on the 11-race card.
Archer teamed up with Guy Gagnon to take the opener with Malvolio in 2:00. They also joined forces to capture Race 4 with Thinkingofyoubabe in 1:58.2.
Gagnon then went down the road in Race 5 with the Archer-trained The Twist in 1:59.4. Samuel Fillion piloted Archer’s final winner on the card – Wisk Key K in 1:57 in Race 7.
Archer has assembled a solid record of 28-22-17 from the 123 starters she’s sent out this year. Those numbers have earned her a .373 UTR and earnings in excess of $135,000.

The Quebec Jockey Club announced today that starting on Sunday (July 4), the Hippodrome 3R will be allowed to increase harness racing spectators by 250 people.
H3R will now have 250 race fans allowed in the outdoor section of the track and can have an additional 250 spectators in the Clubhouse/Grandstand indoor section.
On the racetrack Friday, Mickeymaksomespeed was the public choice overwhelming 1-5 favourite in the sixth race Preferred Pace and he did not disappoint his fans.
With the field reduced by two late scratches to just six horses, driver Samuel Fillion was able to send Mickeymaksomespeed right to the lead and then stuffed Farmers Tan (Francis Picard) into the two-hole by the opening quarter mile in :27.2.
