Scheme to crack down on Oxford s rogue landlords approved

A SCHEME aimed at cracking down on rogue landlords will be rolled out to thousands of privately-rented homes across Oxford. Oxford City Council has now approved two licensing schemes aimed at improving conditions and driving up standards in the private rented sector. At a cabinet meeting on Wednesday evening, councillors agreed to renew an additional licensing scheme for all houses in multiple occupation (HMOs) and to introduce a selective licensing scheme. If the scheme receives the go-ahead by central government, this means that all privately rented homes in the city will need to be licensed. Plans for both schemes were strongly backed by Oxford tenants, campaigners and stakeholders in an independent public consultation last year, which received nearly 2,000 submissions.
