SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) At a time when the San Jose Dance Theatre should be focusing on their upcoming performance of Sleeping Beauty, the nonprofit dance company is asking for the public s help after a devastating theft of nearly a hundred costumes.
Linda Hurkmans, the artistic director says this year has already been challenging enough with the setbacks of COVID-19. Virtual classes and performances have been a learning curve. Now they must get through an unexpected setback. It s a really sad week for us says Hurkmans via Zoom from her dance studio at home. Thieves got in and stole countless of our precious ballet costumes .
For dancers and audience members alike, perhaps one of the biggest jos of ballet are the costumes. But at the San Jose Dance Theater, most of its costumes are now gone.
