Amador District Attorney Sets the Record Straight
Jackson, CA.At the outset, let it be clear that the focus of all the energies of the law enforcement community and Amador County citizens should be on obtaining justice for Victoria Marquina and her family. Our thoughts and prayers go out to them as they deal with unspeakable grief and loss. But it is also important that the Marquina family and the public know the truth about the Amador County District Attorney Office’s efforts to seek justice for Victoria so that they can have confidence that we did everything we could do to build a case whereby the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office would file charges against the man responsible for her death. Unfortunately, you can’t find that truth in the media accounts of this story, hence the necessity for this attempt to set the record straight.

Update:
ABC10 reached out to the San Joaquin DA and received the following statement after the initial story was published: As in any homicide prosecution, the San Joaquin District Attorney’s Office has the burden to prove that a homicide occurred and, if so, where it occurred. STOCKTON, California A Stockton family and community are still searching for answers from a Christmas Eve murder 20 years ago.

The case remains unsolved. I’ve just been holding it and holding it, Tina Mendoza, Sophia s mother, said.
There were six people who identified themselves as state police from the Department of Consumer Affairs, and they came in and wanted everyone to stay in place, Ballin said. When I got there, I just asked them a question. I asked that this is about public health and safety, so what s the connection between salons and infection rates? Because if you are going to target certain businesses, there has to be a reason for it.
Ballin said local attorney Armando Villapudua has offered his services to those who were cited pro bono. Ballin stated he and other California salon owners are working to prepare their own lawsuit against the state.
