Week in review: Interim SUSD superintendent resigns; Stockton leads county in COVID-19 deaths

The Record Stockton Unified is again looking for a leader after interim Superintendent Brian Biedermann announced his resignation with “great regret” five months before his contract was set to expire. Citing health complications, Biedermann, an administrator with the district for more than 20 years, said he wanted to reset his priorities and spend more time with his young children. Biedermann provided 30-days notice of his resignation. There have been no immediate discussions by the Board of Trustees to replace Biederman; neither has the process for finding a permanent district superintendent begun. Biedermann is the district’s 13th superintendent in slightly more than 30 years and his interim appointment followed a series of controversial moves at SUSD.

San Joaquin County veterans can register to get COVID-19 vaccination

The Record San Joaquin County veterans age 65 and older can register to get a COVID-19 vaccine at an event this weekend. The drive-thru event will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30 and Sunday, Jan. 31, at the Robert Cabral Agricultural Center, 2101 E. Earhart Ave., Stockton.  Pre-registration is required and those who do not meet veteran status, are not 65 and older and who are not residents of San Joaquin County will be turned away.  Veterans can register at https://bit.ly/3ptJgBG and will receive a timeframe to arrive for their vaccination. “I am pleased that Public Health Services is able to supply vaccines for this targeted group of seniors, who have served our country and who, by getting vaccinated, are getting us one step closer to herd immunity,” San Joaquin County Public Health Officer Dr. Maggie Park said in a news release. “As we receive more vaccines from the state, we will focus on expanding this opportunity further, to all of our 65 and
