New Stockton Mayor Kevin Lincoln found out right away that when you run for public office and you actually enter office “there’s no honeymoon period.”
“It is straight to work. Not only did my team have to get acclimated with City Hall and everything that’s going on, but we had to start making decisions right away,” he said. “It was just really important for us to hit the ground running.”
Former Monterey County superintendent named acting head of Stockton Unified [The Record, Stockton, Calif]
John Ramirez Jr. is in charge of the Stockton Unified School District, but it is not a permanent appointment. At least not yet.
In a closed meeting of SUSD trustees, Ramirez was voted in as the acting superintendent in place of an ailing Brian Biedermann, who is out on medical leave and scheduled to leave his post as interim superintendent on Feb. 25. Ramirez may end up with the interim title, or even be named permanent leader of the district, but there’s more to the process.

Stockton Unified is again looking for a leader after interim Superintendent Brian Biedermann announced his resignation with “great regret” five months before his contract was set to expire.
Citing health complications, Biedermann, an administrator with the district for more than 20 years, said he wanted to reset his priorities and spend more time with his young children. Biedermann provided 30-days notice of his resignation. There have been no immediate discussions by the Board of Trustees to replace Biederman; neither has the process for finding a permanent district superintendent begun. Biedermann is the district’s 13th superintendent in slightly more than 30 years and his interim appointment followed a series of controversial moves at SUSD.
Stockton Unified interim Superintendent Brian Biedermann announces resignation
The Record
STOCKTON Brian Biedermann, interim superintendent of the Stockton Unified School District, announced his resignation Tuesday in a letter posted on the district s website and social media. It is with a heavy heart that I announce my thirty-day notice to resign as Interim Superintendent, Biedermann said. This was no easy decision, but due to recent health complications, I must step down to tend to my own personal health.
Biedermann, who previously served as director of educational services for Stockton Unified, was selected by the Board of Trustees to serve as interim superintendent after John Deasy stepped down last year. He informed the district s Board of Trustees of his decision to step down five months before his contract was set to expire June 15.
