A Milton man has been charged with murder after he allegedly killed a woman with a hatchet and buried her body in his backyard.
Johnny Edwards Malisham, 60, was arrested Sunday after Santa Rosa County Sheriff s Office investigators worked with University of West Florida anthropologists to unearth the woman s body from below a backyard burn pit.
SRSO spokesman Sgt. Rich Aloy told the News Journal that authorities believe the body is Cynthia Hoover, a 60-year-old Milton woman who went missing in March. All indications are leading us to believe it is most likely Cynthia Hoover, Aloy said. But positive identification has not been done by the medical examiner.
Broxson was also charged with aggravated battery, robbery and obstructing justice.
Because Broxson was a juvenile at the time of the homicide, she was not booked into the Santa Rosa County Jail following her Wednesday arrest. Instead, she was taken to Department of Juvenile Justice for processing, according to the release.
SRSO deputies responded at about 1:15 a.m. Oct. 22, 2020, to a shooting at the Simmons River Fishing Pier near the 3200 block of U.S. 90.
Deputies located Dejaynes and a second shooting victim and transported them both to a local hospital. Dejaynes was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Because the incident involved juveniles, few details about the shooting had been made pubic as of Friday, including any identifying information pertaining to the second victim.

Milton needs a new wastewater treatment plant – yesterday. However, there are other factors bearing heavily on this urgent need to facilitate development hook ups. For example, the Blackwater River, considered a Florida Outstanding Water, is now an impaired water body from the effects of the wastewater effluent discharge. Also, the site selected for the new plant, near the Santa Rosa County Jail, suffers from steep grades, erosion and is uncomfortably close to the river.
