Southern Pines, N.C. The No. 15 Pinecrest Patriots got a lift from senior Sam Stoltz to defeat conference rival No. 16 Lumberton on Tuesday night at home.
In a tight, competitive game, Stoltz saved the day for the Patriots when he stepped up and drilled a triple off of a broken play to give his team a 45-42 victory.
The game, with its own high stakes in 2021, was a rematch of the 2020 4A Eastern regional final in which the Pirates emerged victorious.
This year, the win in the lone regular season matchup gives Pinecrest a leg up in winning the competitive 4A Sandhills Athletic conference.
