A new book telling the stories of the women who helped build the first transcontinental railroad is a fascinating insight into the lives of 19th-century American women.
In addition to those enhancements, City Utilities crews also finished work on the McKinley Water Vault, a storage tank that will reduce flooding of nearby streets during storms.
“Sacramento has what’s called a ‘combined sewer system, ” James Yorita, McKinley Water Vault project manager told
Sacramento City Express. “That means many of our storm drains carry away rainwater as well as sewage. If the pipes are full during heavy rains, that combined water can flow back onto City streets, something that the vault will help reduce.”
In the meantime, residents can view the coming improvements through virtual renderings.

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) As if the pandemic wasn’t hard enough to bounce back from, now Sacramento business owners are bracing for an ordinance that will require a switch from gas to electric.
Chef David Soohoo is turning up the heat on the Sacramento City Council.
“If you’re on Stockton Boulevard, it’s a job killer,” he said.
Soohoo says a similar ordinance is proving too costly even in San Francisco.
“The restaurants in Chinatown are closing up. They are in trouble,” he said.
