RAWALPINDI: Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan on Saturday asked the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) to ensure establishment of a sewage treatment plant (STP) in the upstream area of Chahan Dam so that waste water flowing from housing societies did not pollute the dam lake.
He stated this during his visit to the Chahan Dam site to review progress on the ongoing construction work. The minister also visited Ring Road project site. RDA Chairman Tariq Mehmood Murtaza, Wasa Managing Director Raja Shaukat Mehmood and other senior officials were also present on the occasion.

RAWALPINDI: Chahan Dam is almost complete but no work has been started to supply six million gallon daily (MGD) water from the reservoir to seven union councils of Rawalpindi due to insufficient funds.
Due to the delay, the project cost has increased from Rs5.3 billion to Rs6.7 billion.
The Punjab government approved the project worth Rs5.3 billion to bring six MGD water fromChahan Damin Dec 2018. The damnear Chakri is being constructed on River Sill Kus. It is located 22 km from the garrison city.

Commissioner orders expediting work on Dadocha Dam

Accumulation of water in the planned Mahota and Chahan dams will start in the coming spring season, while Dadhocha Dam has been termed as ‘an indispensable project of public welfare’ by the top officer of the Rawalpindi division.
“All departments concerned should make mobilisation plans to start work on Dadocha Dam which is an indispensable project of public welfare,” Rawalpindi Commissioner Muhammad Mahmood said onMonday. He said that a site office should be set up at any suitable place to start work on the dam and the masonry work should be mobilised on the spot to start the work and steps in this regard should be completed as soon as possible.
