The Centre on Monday told the Supreme Court that a batch of petitions seeking an independent probe into the Pegasus snooping allegations is based on conjectures, surmises and unsubstantiated media reports and a group of experts will examine all issues raised.
The committee is being set up to "dispel any wrong narrative spread by certain vested interests and with an object of examining the issues raised", the government said in an affidavit but there is no mention of its composition or timeframe.
India News: NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Monday asked the Centre to furnish a detailed affidavit with the information if Israeli spyware Pegasus was used or no.
"There is nothing to hide. It needs examination by committee of experts. This is a highly technical issue. We will appoint eminent neutral experts from the field," Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the bench, which also comprised justices Surya Kant and Aniruddha Bose.
