Area of Southampton has Covid rate similar to worst-hit parts of central London AN AREA of Southampton has a Covid infection rate worse than many parts of London, the latest data has revealed. Public Heath England says that Redbridge and Millbrook West has a rate of 1,008.6 cases per 100,000 people – which means 1 in every 100 residents had Covid-19 in the week-to July 18. The data also shows that it recorded 75 cases in that seven-day period, which was up 127.3% (42 cases) on the week before. It has a rate close to the worst in central London, including Clapham South (1,031.3), Tooting Bec Common (1,152), and Balham (943.7). Other areas of Southampton recorded high rates, but not close to that of their neighbour in Redbridge.

The figures show 854 out of 1,276 eligible staff, including agency workers, at older adult care homes had received two doses of a vaccine by July 4 – meaning 33% have not been fully vaccinated.

NHS data shows 78,060 people had received both jabs by May 30 – 38% of those aged 16 and over, based on the latest population estimates from the Office for National Statistics. Of those to have received both jabs, 70,733 were aged 30 and over – 52% of the age group. It means 7,327 people aged between 16 to 29 have received both doses. Across England, almost half of people aged 16 and over have received their second vaccine dose. The NHS vaccine data also reveals variation in coverage for residents who had received at least one dose between different areas across Southampton.
