The world as the classroom - The Hindu

The world as the classroom Updated: Updated: May 22, 2021 15:11 IST As the learning landscape in India evolves, we must keep in mind that our goal is to prepare students for life and its challenges Share Article As the learning landscape in India evolves, we must keep in mind that our goal is to prepare students for life and its challenges In my 20s, I remember thinking and hearing from my peers about how we would utilise our learnings from the university in real life. Or rather, are we learning things that can be used in the real world? Fast forward to today, and the thought process does not seem to have changed much. But the world has.

Rechargeable Potassium–Selenium Batteries by Xiang Long Huang, Zaiping Guo et al

Abstract Rechargeable potassium–selenium (K–Se) batteries, as an emerging electrochemical energy storage system, has recently captured intensive attention due to the desirable natural abundance and low redox potential of elemental potassium as well as the relatively high electronic conductivity and impressive theoretical volumetric capacity of elemental selenium. Although great progress on cathode materials design and electrochemical performance improvement has been made, K–Se batteries are still confronted with a series of key challenges, including low reactive activity, shuttle effect, volume expansion, potassium dendrite growth, and high chemical activity of potassium metal. The recent advances in rechargeable K–Se batteries are comprehensively summarized with an emphasis on discussing the electrochemical mechanisms and central challenges, presenting the synthesis, properties, and electrochemical performance of selenium-based cathode materials, and extending potential tac

Photo / Supplied New York Times By: Gina Cherelus Expectations were so low and the hurdles so plentiful that the crew wasn t eager to work on the movie. Recasting after the death of Chris Farley added challenges, too. The idea that an ugly ogre could be a big-screen hero in a romantic-comedy fairy tale was not one that many had high hopes for. The lack of a traditional prince wasn t the only hurdle for Shrek, the next big animated production from the newly formed DreamWorks. Producers and directors came and went. A major role had to be recast. And technology was proving to be thorny. In fact, the project was initially unpopular among employees.
