It may not feel like it generally, but one of the capital region’s reliable signs of spring was spotted on the Rideau River Saturday.
City crews were out cutting troughs in the ice, to allow water to flow more freely as a measure to alleviate possible spring flooding in flood-prone areas.

Later in season, crews return with saws, beginning above Rideau Falls, to “cut keys”, removing large pieces of ice along portions of the river.
