Outgoing School Board rep Julie Wade: Lessons I learned in good governance
Local elected bodies should constantly strive to improve their governance structure to improve the lives of those they serve
Julie Wade
This is an op-ed from outgoing Savannah-Chatham County School Board District 1 Representative Julie Wade. She has spend 10 years on the board and did not seek re-election earlier this year. Her term expires Jan. 1, 2021.
Public service is an American institution and hallmark of democracy, where normal citizens can serve their community through local elected office. I was relatively new to Savannah, a lawyer and mom of three young children, when I signed up to run for the Board of Education for Savannah Chatham Public Schools. Now those young children are tweens and teens, and I am ending 10 years of service to our community and our public school system.
