LIMERICK City and County Council has revealed the locations of a number of new outdoor dining spots.
With public health officials and politicians urging an outdoor summer, the local authority has responded in kind and has identified a number of sports for temporary ‘build-outs’ for al-fresco dining and drinking.
It’s anticipated these will be provided well in advance of the further loosening of restrictions, which will allow pubs and restaurants to serve outdoors after June 7.
Developers reveal new plans for former Limerick bank

DEVELOPERS have revealed fresh plans to redevelop a former Limerick bank branch.
Huntswold Ventures is seeking planning permission to carry out work at the former Permanent TSB outlet in Sarsfield Street.
It will see the business unit on the ground floor converted to a retail shop, with amendments at the front.
Meanwhile, the second floor, currently offices, will be redeveloped to provide five new apartments including an extension on this level.
Access to these apartments, according to a planning notice published in this weekend’s Limerick Leader will be from Sarsfield Street. And a roof-top terrace would also be provided.
‘The beginning of the end’: Limerick business reacts to Covid-19 re-opening plans

The reaction of local publican and Vintners Federation of Ireland representative Paul Flannery to the news that scores of businesses will re-open over the next two months.
Companies which have not yet opened in 2021 will finally begin to start trading again from May 10, with pubs due to open to outdoor business a month later on Monday, June 7 – dependent on the progress in reducing Covid-19 numbers. For more information, click here.
Mr Flannery, who runs his family pub in Shannon Street, said: “It’s definitely a step in the right direction, but we still have a long way to go.”

PLANS for a new student accommodation development in the city are back on the table, the Limerick Leader can today reveal.
Despite An Bord Pleanala rejecting proposals for a new multi-storey development at the old John Moloney garage by Punch’s Cross last year, Cloncarragh Developments has returned with a fresh planning application.
It will be made to the national planning authority this week – and due to the fact more than 100 units are being provided, it is being fast-tracked under laws designed to make the delivery of housing quicker.
Limerick taxi drivers say moving O Connell Street rank will affect business

A LIMERICK taxi driver contacted the Leader to say he - and a number of colleagues - were not aware that the O Connell Street rank was being moved.
He said there were bollards blocking it when he went to pull into the rank on Thursday. He said the taxi signs have been taken down and no new ones erected to inform the public where the replacement rank is.
The Leader put his claims to Limerick City and County Council. A spokesperson said they carried out and continue to undertake an extensive engagement and awareness process in relation to the works now underway on O’Connell Street .
