NEW BEDFORD A former New Bedford-based regional officer for a national criminal enterprise known as the Latin Kings has been sentenced to 4.5 years in prison and three years of supervised release on racketeering charges.
According to a press release from the U.S. Attorney s Office, 26-year-old Michael Cotto of New Bedford, known as King Gordo, was sentenced on June 8 by U.S. Senior District Court Judge Rya Zobel.
A former member of the Latin Kings New Bedford Chapter, Cotto had previously pleaded guilty to racketeering charges in January after admitting to playing a role in distributing drugs and conducting acts of violence for the gang.

BOSTON A member of the New Bedford Chapter of the Almighty Latin King and Queen Nation (“Latin Kings”) was sentenced Wednesday for being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition following an investigation into an armed robbery in New Bedford and a shooting in Boston in April 2020.
Ramon Martinez, also known as “King Razor,” 26, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Denise J. Casper to 40 months in prison and three years of supervised release, according to a news release from the state’s U.S. Attorney’s Office. In November 2020, Martinez pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal announced on April 29 that an alleged local leader of the Latin Kings street gang and eight inmates allegedly under his command in various correctional facilities – including Northern State Prison in Newark and New Jersey State Prison in Trenton – have been charged with forming a “hit squad” within the prison system to commit assaults on behalf of the gang.
They are specifically charged with engaging in conduct including a brutal attack on one inmate in New Jersey State Prison, a planned assault on another inmate in Northern State Prison that was prevented by the New Jersey Department of Corrections (DOC), and possession of makeshift blades called “shanks,” according to the statement.
