Farmers told to look east to capitalise on untapped markets 25 February 2021 | Liz Truss told the NFU’s virtual annual conference that farmers need to capitalise on untapped markets Farmers have been encouraged by the government to look east to capitalise on untapped markets now that the UK has left the EU. The International Trade Minister Liz Truss told the virtual NFU Conference that farmers needed to look further afield. Ms Truss said that the UK was coming out of “50 years of anti-innovation, high tariff wars and 150% tariffs on whisky going to India”. She said that the UK now had the opportunity to build resilience to future economic shocks by setting its own tariffs.
