INVESTORS INTERESTED IN FORD AND GM
After years of shunning the U.S. s two largest car
companies, investors are finally starting to kick the tires on
General Motors Co. and Ford Motor Co. Ford shares have surged about
20% this week and have risen about 35% in January, which would mark
their best month since April 2009. The move this week followed a
Deutsche Bank report suggesting Ford could give a
brighter-than-expected profit outlook for 2021 when it reports
fourth-quarter earnings on Feb. 4. GM s stock price also has
jumped about 35% this month, to a record level since shares began
trading in 2010, following the auto giant s bankruptcy a year

Nearly five months after announcing plans to tie up with Nikola Motor Company – a deal that ultimately unraveled amid an investor s report claiming widespread fraud that preceded Trevor Milton stepping down from the company he founded – General Motors said Wednesday it plans to collaborate with Navistar on a fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV).
International RH Series FCEV test vehicles are expected to begin a pilot phase with J.B. Hunt Transport by the end of next year, and Navistar plans to make its first production models commercially available in model year 2024.
The integrated solution has a target range of more than 500 miles with a hydrogen fueling time of less than 15 minutes.
In collaboration with General Motors and OneH2, Navistar is introducing a complete solution for customer implementation of a zero-emission long-haul system, which will be initially piloted by J.B. Hunt Transport.
GM partnership will put more electric long-haul trucks on American roads
General Motors is joining the likes of other automakers such as Toyota in developing hydrogen fuel cell technology for long-haul trucking.
GM is partnering with Navistar Inc. and hydrogen provider OneH2 to develop a complete zero-emissions long-haul truck system across the United States.
The trucks will be powered by hydrogen rather than batteries, thereby eliminating the need for charging stations on long truck routes. Instead, this new system will offer hydrogen refilling stations across the nation. OneH2 will supply the hydrogen production, storage, delivery and safety. Hydrogen fuel cells offer great promise for heavy duty trucks in applications requiring a higher density of energy, fast refueling and additional range, said Navistar CEO Persio Lisboa.
