About the International Drug Policy Reform Conference
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have decided not to host the 2021 International Drug Policy Reform Conference.
We are excited to bring people together when the time is right. We intend for our future Reform Conference to provide the same dynamic spaces and opportunities to be inspired, and to connect with and learn from each other. We hope you will join us.
The Reform Conference may be on pause, but our work is not.
Join our Uprooting the Drug War discussion series to talk about how we can work together, across movements, to fully extract the drug war and its culture of criminalization and punishment from our lives.
People of color experience discrimination at every stage of the criminal legal system.
The drug war has produced profoundly unequal outcomes across racial groups, manifested through racial discrimination by law enforcement and disproportionate drug war misery suffered by communities of color.
Many different communities of color bear the impact of the discriminatory enforcement of drug laws. This impact may vary across cities and regions. Nationwide, some of the most egregious racial disparities can be seen in the case of Black and Latinx people.
Higher arrest and incarceration rates for these communities are not reflective of increased prevalence of drug use, but rather of law enforcement’s focus on urban areas, lower income communities and communities of color.
Over 1.6 million people are arrested, prosecuted, incarcerated, placed under criminal justice supervision and/or deported each year on a drug law violation. But mass incarceration is just one part of the overall system of mass criminalization, enabled in large part by the war on drugs.
Advocacy Grants Program: Advancing Drug Policy Through Partnership & Community Engagement
Attendees of “NOT ONE STEP BACK, a panel discussion led by our partners during our annual Policy Change Partners Gathering.
The Drug Policy Alliance’s (DPA) Advocacy Grants Program has been making small grants to grassroots organizations working on drug policy reform since 2005. The main fund within this program is Promoting Policy Change, an annual cycle that provides general operating support to proven drug policy reform organizations.
The Advocacy Grants Program funding priorities are guided by DPA’s mission to advance policies and attitudes that best reduce the harms of both drug use and drug prohibition, and to promote the sovereignty of individuals over their minds and bodies.
