Dozens of Taiwanese Star Wars fans gathered on the top floor of the nation’s tallest building Tuesday to salute their favorite movie, while stressing the importance of wearing face masks to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Fans dressed in full Star Wars costumes held mock lightsaber battles and posed for pictures on the 89th floor of the Taipei 101 financial building for what has become an annual observance of what has become known as international Star Wars Day.
Organizer of the event Makoto Tsai told reporters he also wanted the “opportunity to introduce interesting places of Taiwan to the world,” because International Star Wars Day, “is an event watched by all the Star Wars fans in the world.”

HIGHLIGHTS
Star Wars Day is celebrated as an informal commemorative day of George Lucas s Star Wars media franchise. May the fourth be with you is a pun used in place of Disney s popular phrase May the force be with you.
Even though the Day was not officially declared by Lucasfilm, fans across the globe have chosen to celebrate it as Star Wars Day.
From Yoda to Chewbacca, Luke Skywalker to Darth Vader and Jedi to lightsabers, the characters of Star Wars have become an integral part of many across the globe.
Ron Carter
Ron Carter, one of the greatest bassists in jazz history, was born on this day in 1937. The conditions and technology for production in space are developing rapidly. Recently, NASA made a breakthrough when they managed to extract oxygen from carbon dioxide on the surface of Mars. At Chalmers University of Technology and Onsala Space Observatory, Sweden, there are lots of ongoing research activities related to production in space.
Tomorrow is International Star Wars Day, and Chalmers is hosting a seminar, with a focus on – appropriately enough – production in space.
There will be more Lego products available next week on International Star Wars Day on May 4th.
The R2-D2 model also comes with an R2-D2 minifigure and a special Lucasfilm 50th anniversary Lego Brick. The product stands at 31cm high, 20cm wide and 15cm deep.
It’s worth noting that Star Wars is only 44 years old, but Lucasfilm will be celebrating its 50th anniversary later this year.
