Havana, Feb 26 (Prensa Latina) Cuba has performed 510 cochlear implant surgeries, especially on children, as part of a national program focused on the treatment of severe-to-profound hearing loss, according to the Ministry of Public Health.
On the occasion of the International Cochlear Implant Day, Dr. Sandra Bermejo Guerra, specialist in Otolaryngology and Audiology, pointed out that all these operations put special emphasis on children.
Of the 510 cochlear implants performed in Cuba for free, eight have been bilateral (in both ears), and three have been on deaf-blind people.
