Muskrats love fluctuating water levels Property owners, not so much

By Marshall Lee Weimer Before surveying muskrats along the St. Lawrence River as a master’s student, Alex Kua didn’t know they existed. The aquatic rodent quickly captured his attention. Little was known then about the impacts muskrats have on their environment, said Kua, now a researcher at the State University of New York. He wanted to know how muskrats shape their surrounding plant communities. A greater understanding of their impact could help guide understanding of their dependence on Great Lakes water levels and their related ecosystem roles. Better understanding the connection between water levels and regulation practices could improve conservation projects in the region.

Syria: Statement by the High Representative Josep Borrell on the second OPCW report about the use of chemical weapons Format The European Union welcomes the release of the second report of the Investigation and Identification Team to the Executive Council of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and to the Secretary General of the United Nations on 12 April 2020. The European Union strongly condemns the use of chemical weapons by the Syrian Arab Air Force in Saraqib, the Syrian Arab Republic, on 4 February 2018, as concluded by the report. We fully support the report’s findings, which further confirm the failure of the Syrian Arab Republic to comply with the Chemical Weapons Convention more than seven years after the adoption of the United Nations Security Council resolution 2118.

Mayorkas met with Honduran Foreign Minister Lisandro Rosales.  During the conversation, Secretary Mayorkas and Foreign Minister Rosales reaffirmed the importance of the U.S.-Honduran partnership and discussed opportunities for enhanced information sharing, increased collaboration on humane approaches toward border security, and migration management.  They also discussed President Biden’s February 2 Executive Orders and the implementation of priority programs, including the ongoing effort to reunify children separated from their families.
