From a schoolgirl in Gaza to a cowherder in South Sudan, from a boy in the woods in Angola to a man visiting his destroyed home in northwest Syria – their lives were taken or irrevocably changed in the flash of an explosion. Across the 55 countries where accidents happened in 2019, states have struggled and, in some cases, failed to provide even basic services to survivors, their families, and communities.

High Threat Search Advisor – DCA Syria Programme

21 May 2021 DanChurchAid (DCA) invites applications for a High Threat Search Advisor (SA) for its Syria programme. This is a non-family position based in North East Syria (NES), with entry point through and frequent travel to Iraq. The DCA Syria programme is a growing programme with a 7-year footprint in NES. The activities are wide-ranging and include risk education, survey, clearance of explosive hazards, cash transfers, vocational training, shelter rehabilitation, NFI distribution, psychosocial support and early recovery. As the High Threat Search Advisor, your main responsibility is to manage, supervise and mentor Community Liaison Teams, conduct Non-Technical and Technical survey in suspected hazard areas, train and capacity build national staff in the areas of high threat search, ground sign awareness and reconnaissance of explosive ordnance; provide technical oversight of search and clearance teams.

The main responsibility of the EOD/IEDD Technical Advisor is to conduct explosive hazard clearance activities; train, manage, mentor and supervise search and clearance national teams in Syria. You will work in a potentially hostile and arduous environment, where there is a need to demonstrate a calm, positive and self-motivated attitude.
