Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal during a review meeting with district administration officials in Majuli on Saturday GUWAHATI: Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday said there is adequate supply and generation of medical oxygen, Remdesivir injections and Covid vaccines in the state and significant number of hospital beds, including ICU beds, in the state at present. Saying that plans are afoot for setting up at least 10 to 15 mini oxygen production plants, Sarma added, “Our daily requirement of oxygen is 28 to 30 metric tonne at present against generation of 50 MT daily. There is no scarcity at present. I think at least till May 10 we would be able to pull through and after that, depending on the situation, we have to think further.”

On Friday, the state saw a spike of 2,348 new cases of which 883 have been detected in Kamrup (Metropolitan) district. The test positivity percentage also crossed 3% on Friday.

Over five lakh people in Assam aged 45 years and above and irrespective of co-morbidities have registered for vaccination GUWAHATI: Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday appealed to all eligible people to get themselves vaccinated saying that the state has a vaccine stock of over five lakh doses and another one lakh is expected to arrive soon. Earlier, the state health department had to rationalize the vaccination programme after stocks started dwindling in the absence of arrival of more vaccine doses. On Tuesday, the vaccine stock was about 1.4 lakh. Amid reports of shortage in vaccines in the state, Sarma on Friday tweeted, “As of now, we have the following stocks: 1.Covishield ~ 3.25 lakh dose 2.Covaxin ~ 2 lakh dose Another batch of about one lakh Covaxin dose will arrive in a day or two. I request everyone eligible to please go in for your vaccination.”
