GUWAHATI: Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday said there is adequate supply and generation of medical oxygen, Remdesivir injections and Covid vaccines in the state and significant number of hospital beds, including ICU beds, in the state at present.
Saying that plans are afoot for setting up at least 10 to 15 mini oxygen production plants, Sarma added, “Our daily requirement of oxygen is 28 to 30 metric tonne at present against generation of 50 MT daily. There is no scarcity at present. I think at least till May 10 we would be able to pull through and after that, depending on the situation, we have to think further.”

GUWAHATI: Former Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, who has been campaigning for BJP in Assam, said on Tuesday that the party is committed to increasing the wages of tea garden workers at any cost.
Addressing a press conference in the city, Fadnavis said BJP had hiked the wages of such workers, “but the Gauhati high court put a stay on the matter”. “I promise that the party will take every legal step to provide them their rights,” the Maharashtra leader said. He then accused the Congress of not doing anything for the welfare of the community in the 70 years of its rule. “It is shameful that the Congress is now raising the issue when the BJP government has already done many things,” Fadnavis said.

GUWAHATI: The excuse of poor health to stay away from election duty could cost some school teachers dear. The Nalbari administration has recommended to the state education department voluntary retirement for 17 government school teachers who had pleaded for exemption from election duty on grounds of poor health. The medical board set up for the election, also found them unfit for election duty.
Sources in the election department said they are receiving applications from a number of government employees in various districts for exemption from poll duty, but the steps taken by the Nalbari administration has raised the eyebrows of government officials.
