When Thierry Delaporte took charge as the chief executive officer and managing director of Wipro Ltd last July, his mandate was to bring the IT firm, which lagged its peers for several years, back to growth.
His predecessor, Abidali Neemuchwala, had failed to deliver on his ambitious target of turning Wipro into a $15-billion firm with operating margin of 23% by 2020. In FY20, the company’s revenue was a little over $8 billion, and operating margin stood at 18.1%. In fact, HCL Technologies Ltd beat Wipro to become India’s third-largest software exporter in FY19.

Serum institute of India CEO Adar Poonawalla said that they will be selling the first 100 million doses of its COVID vaccine to the central government at a special price of Rs 200 ‘on their request’, he said on 12 January. “After which we will be selling it at Rs 1,000 in private markets,” he told ANI, while adding the first set of doses is meant to support the common man, vulnerable, poor and healthcare workers.
The Pune-based firm has entered into a collaboration with the University of Oxford and AstraZeneca to manufacture the vaccine.

A week ago, Poonawalla had made similar claims to AP. He had said that while the first 100 million doses were being sold to the government at Rs 200, the prices would be increased after that. He said the vaccine would be sold at Rs 1,000 per dose and would be delivered to states within seven to ten days of finalising the deal with the concerned state government.

Los Angeles County’s Covid-19 hospitalizations are at an all-time high, with 10 times the number of people in hospital from just two months ago.
According to the Los Angeles Department of Public Health (LADPH), 7,181 patients were in the hospital Tuesday 267 more than Monday. Around 20% of those in hospital are in the intensive care unit (ICU).
On October 29, there were 750 people hospitalized with the disease.

Ahmedabad: Four UK people arriving from London tested positive for Covid at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on Tuesday (December 22). They have been admitted to hospital.
The people were on Air India flight AI 1172 that brought 275 people from UK and landed at the city at 10:30 am. All flight operations from UK have been cancelled by the Centre from today till December 31, after a fresh strain of Covid was detected there.
