Controversial businessman Geoffrey Edelsten dead aged 78

Controversial Australian businessman Geoffrey Edelsten has passed away at the age of 78 after being found dead in his Melbourne apartment on Friday. The former Sydney Swans owner rose to prominence in the 1980s due to his flamboyant lifestyle and eccentric marriages. Mr Edelsten also ran a number of 24-hour GP super clinics which featured grand pianos and chandeliers in the waiting rooms. He was removed from the NSW medical register in 1988 for over-billing -and was later sentenced to a year behind bars for paying a hitman to assault a former patient. His death is not being treated as suspicious.
