CROW board of directors welcomes new members By CROW - | May 5, 2021 PHOTO PROVIDED Karen Buck The Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife held its 2020 Membership Meeting on March 31 via Zoom, with those in attendance including members, staff, and the board of the directors. New board members elected were Karen Buck, Ron Clayton and Dave Nichols. Originally from the Chicago area, Buck has resided at least part time on Captiva since 1997 with her family. A retired medical assistant, lab tech and medical office manager, she grew up in rural Indiana surrounded by wildlife. She has been involved with many fundraisers and is currently serving on the entertainment committee at The Sanctuary Golf Club.

Tune in for Southern Comfort on Sanibel and support CROW By CROW - | Apr 20, 2021 PHOTO PROVIDED The Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife will host its virtual “Southern Comfort on Sanibel” on April 23 at 7 p.m., with everyone invited to tune in and take part from the comfort of their home. The evening will enable CROW to continue to serve sick, injured native and migratory wildlife of Southwest Florida. The event will feature Animal Ambassadors and “never before seen” footage of the Southwest Florida Eagle Cam eagles while they were under CROW’s care. Evening activities will include a live and silent auction along with other fun surprises.

Shout out to patient drivers By Staff | Apr 20, 2021 To the editor: On April 8 while driving east on West Gulf Drive, there was a dark lump in the middle of the road a turtle. I stopped and oncoming traffic stopped, and I moved the turtle to the side of the road. No traffic moved until I was safely back in my car. The next morning as I started to turn into the street to The Sanctuary Golf Club clubhouse, there was a police car with all lights flashing at the side of the road guarding a large soft-shelled turtle in the road.

For the past year, COVID-19 has put a stop to many major gatherings on the islands, including the Sanibel-Captiva Kiwanis Club’s annual Spaghetti Dinner. But, the club has a new event that promises to be both fun and safe: the Kiwanis Online Silent Auction. Available for browsing, the auction Website features unusual items and exciting experiences.
