SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - A Sarasota man is in jail after fentanyl powder and marijuana were found in his backpack, police said.
Connor T. Smith, 27, was arrested March 30 after Sarasota Police department officers spotted Smith at a pub in the 2800 block of North Tamiami Trail. Smith was wanted in Manatee County for a violation of probation for robbery with a deadly weapon and two counts of aggravated battery.

A Florida man who allegedly was caught racing up to 100 mph through a crash site told police during his arrest that he had business to take care of at a Ritz-Carlton hotel, a report says.
Joshua Gaukhman, a 24-year-old from Nokomis, is now staying at a place less glamorous ‒ the Sarasota County Jail ‒ as he faces six counts of aggravated assault on officer/firefighter/EMT and other drug-related charges. I have business to do, Gaukhman was quoted as telling officers late Sunday during his arrest in Sarasota, according to the Venice Gondolier Sun newspaper, citing a probable cause affidavit. The document added that Gaukhman, who was only wearing an undershirt, boxer-briefs and one sock , said he had left his home to go to a Ritz-Carlton hotel.

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - A Punta Gorda woman has been charged with DUI manslaughter in connected with a Dec. 14 crash in Sarasota County.
The Florida Highway Patrol on Thursday arrested 37-year-old Olivia Hernandez of Punta Gorda for DUI manslaughter, DUI serious bodily injury and DUI property damage.
In the December 14, 2020, crash, Hernandez was driving south in the northbound lanes of Interstate 75 in a 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe, a mile north of Jacaranda Boulevard at about 10:40 p.m.
At the same time, a 2012 Nissan was traveling north on I-75. The front left of the Hyundai collided with the front left of the Nissan. The crash resulted in the death of the Nissan driver, a 21-year-old man from Lauderdale Lakes, and serious injuries to his 16-year-old female passenger from Penbroke Pines.
