POINTE BLANCHE: - Port St. Maarten Management and Staff laid the annual traditional wreath at the statue of the late Dr. Claude Wathey in front of the Cruise Terminal Building on the occasion of his 95th birthday.
The country’s seaport – Dr. A.C. Wathey Cruise & Cargo Facility - is named after Wathey who oversaw the economic transformation of the country over a 40-year period.
Over the four decades, Wathey’s vision transformed St. Maarten into a prosperous tourism destination. Since then, tourism continues to be the mainstay whereby the island maintains a competitive position within the Caribbean Basin.

POINTE BLANCHE: - The 2021 Atlantic hurricane season is forecast to be an active one according to forecasters. Five named storms have already formed so far for the season.
At Port St. Maarten, a number of assessments have been carried out in connection with the season and the port’s hurricane preparedness plans. All pre-storm/hurricane plans are in place and ready to be activated in the event of a threat to the country.
Port St. Maarten would like to remind boat owners and mariners with respect to its protocols for pre-storm/hurricane preparations for the Simpson Bay and Causeway Bridges in connection with the 2021 Atlantic Hurricane Season.

PHILIPSBURG (DCOMM): - The Collective Prevention Services (CPS), a department in the Ministry of Public Health, Social Development and Labour (Ministry VSA), would like to inform that the CPS COVID-19 Drive Through testing remains open.
All persons are encouraged to come to the testing location in Pointe Blanche (before the entrance to the Dr. A.C. Wathey Cruise & Cargo Facility) Monday-Friday from 8:30 AM to 11:00 AM.
Testing is free; however, this is not for travel purposes. Weekend testing remains by appointment only.
914 Information Line is still operational. The hours of 914 are Monday-Friday 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Please note that due to low call volumes the time was adjusted from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Saturday and Sunday 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

POINTE BLANCHE: - Port St. Maarten Management met with Royal Caribbean Group (RCG) executives this week where they had strategic discussions in connection with further strengthening the partnership that has existed for several decades.
The deliberations focused on port infrastructure and cruise guests’ experiences. “Port St. Maarten is the #1 port in this part of the region, and the discussions centered on strategic and tactical strategies in maintaining this posture as a cruise destination.
“We looked at how we can further increase and enhance homeporting opportunities and other potential business based on the ports Ernest & Young High-Level Strategic Plan.
