Melbourne killer Saeed Noori can t appeal sentence over Flinders Street Station attack

A Melbourne man who mowed down pedestrians outside Flinders Street Station in a premeditated pre-Christmas attack won t get a shot at appealing his life sentence. Saeed Noori killed 83-year-old Antonio Crocaris and injured 16 others in a 2017 premeditated killing, described by top Victorian judges as the worst kind of murder. Three Court of Appeal judges on Wednesday knocked back his attempt to overturn the life sentence he was handed for his crime, along with an order he serve at least 30 years before he is eligible for parole. They said it was necessary to avoid a visceral approach to his offending and to put emotions to one side in considering his application to appeal.

Flinders St driver loses appeal for early prison release

10 March 2021 4:13pm A driver who rammed into pedestrians on Flinders Street, killing Greek Australian grandfather Antonios ‘Anton’ Crocaris, 83, as lost an appeal for an early release from prison. Saeed Noori, 37, is serving a minimum of 30 years for the incident which occurred on 21 December 2017, just a few days before Christmas. His appeal for an early release was denied today. Mr Noori drove down the busy street and injured 15 people, including a four-year-old boy. Mr Crocaris died from head injuries sustained during the attack. Justice Elizabeth Hollingworth said it was lucky that Mr Noori had not hurt or killed more people during the incident.
