President Obama Votes Present on Pastor Saeed Abedini
Pastor Saeed Abedini and his wife
An Iranian-American Pastor, who was setting up an orphanage in Iran, has been sentenced to 8 years in Iran’s most brutal prison, Evin prison. The charges against him are for “evangelizing.” The sentence was passed down by Judge Pir-Abassi, Iran’s hanging judge.
The evidence was based on Abedini’s activities in the early 2000s when house churches were not considered a threat in Iran.
The charges are bogus, as if imprisoning someone for preaching could ever be deserving of 8 years in jail to begin with. This is an American citizen we are talking about.
US and Iran Push Back Reports of Prisoner Exchange
US and Iran officials have each pushed back reports in Tehran’s media of a prisoner exchange, with Iranians held in the US swapped for political detainees in Iran.
Iranian State TV claimed four American political prisoners would be exchanged for four Iranians in the US, detained over sanctions violations, and the release of $7 billion in frozen Iranian funds in South Korea.
In addition, Anglo-Iranian charity Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, held since April 2016, would be traded for £400 million ($552 million), held by the UK over a pre-Revolution deal for Chieftain tanks that were never delivered.
