Saskatchewan crews fighting more than 100 wildfires, more hot weather in forecast

Steve Roberts, vice-president of operations for the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency, says this week s weather forecast offers no reprieve. The weather in Saskatchewan is going to continue to be mainly hot and dry, he said Wednesday. There will be isolated storm systems that will pass through nothing significant. The small systems that we ve been seeing for the last number of days are producing a slight amount of precipitation, but they are also producing lightning, which is giving us new fire starts. In northern Saskatchewan, dozens of homes have been evacuated as fires burn close to communities. Evacuees are currently being sheltered in North Battleford and Lloydminster. The agency has also been co-ordinating bus transportation out of some communities.

Last Updated Thursday, July 8, 2021 2:14PM EDT COQUITLAM, B.C. - The federal government has reached a deal with British Columbia, the first in the Trudeau Liberals bid to build a national daycare system, and a move longtime advocates marked as “very good news” for families and the economy. The deal aims to create 30,000 new spaces in B.C. in the next five years, with average fees for regulated spaces cut in half by the end of 2022 and hitting $10 per day in regulated spaces for children under six by 2027. The deal, which is not yet public, is likely to be released in the coming weeks.
