Disquiet in NDLEA over chairman’s term limit

As top police officers intensified their lobbying to succeed the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, who is billed to retire in February, analysts are wondering if President Muhammadu Buhari will buck the trend by picking a Southerner as his successor.
The analysts, who spoke to THISDAY at the weekend, expressed concerns about the possibility of the president picking another Northerner to succeed Adamu, expected to retire on February 1 having spent 35 years in service, despite the clamour by Nigerians that Buhari should end the domination of Northerners as heads of the nation’s military, paramilitary and security agencies.

SOME officiers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, under the auspices of Concerned Officers of NDLEA, yesterday, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to appoint a competent chairman for the agency after the expiration of the tenure of the incumbent, Mustapha Abdallah.
Mr. Abdullah was appointed as Chairman of the Board of NDLEA on January 12, 2016, his five-year tenure elapses on January 11, 2021.
But, in a statement by Musa Yusuf, on behalf of the concerned workers, the officers expressed delight that Abdullah’s tenure was coming to an end.
In the letter titled: ‘NDLEA officers urge Buhari to appoint a competent Chairman, tell Abdallah your time is up’, the workers listed administrative negligence, non-promotion of officers, a report from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, unending recruitment, among others as reasons why the outgoing chairman’s tenure should quickly come to an end.
SRINAGAR: Deputy Mayor, Srinagar Parvaiz Ahmad Qadri, accompanied with Executive Engineer (RRWD), SMC Compost Officer, SMC Estates Officer, SMC and other Officers/Official of the Corporation visited Animal Carcass burial ground Galandar, SMC land at Nowgam Bypass, and New By-pass Live Stock checking post SMC, to take stock of their functions.
During his visit to the Animal Carcass burial ground Galandar, Deputy Mayor Srinagar directed the Concerned Officers to use modern scientific methods for burial of dead animals /carcass and also directed Executive Engineer, Concerned to frame necessary estimate for earth filling and go for fencing around the said land at galandar.
