Macmillan CEO thanks retiring Islington firefighter

Emma Beattie and London Fire Brigade Deputy Assistant Commissioner Al Perez - Credit: London Fire Brigade A firefighter who raised enough money to fund a Macmillan cancer support centre for three years has been thanked by the charity’s chief executive - as she retires from a 30-year career in the London Fire Brigade. Sub-officer Emma Beattie has organised 14 World’s Biggest Coffee Morning events at Islington Fire Station in Upper Street since 2006, raising £25,474.08 to date. In a video meeting ahead of her final roll call today, Macmillan chief executive Lynda Thomas thanked Emma for her dedication to the cancer charity.

Fraud on Boylston Street: At 10:13 a.m., a clerk at Audy’s Mobil reported a customer tried to pay with fraudulent $20 bills. Police took a report. Theft on Beacon Street: At 2:01 p.m., a caller reported someone stole his packages. He told police he had video proof of the theft, and police took a report.
