TBILISI, DFWatch–With the tourist season approaching, Georgia is thinking about opening its land borders.
“Discussions are already underway and the border will probably be opened,” said Paata Imnadze, Scientific Director at National Center for Disease Control and Public Health, which is the main body handling the pandemic in the country.
Everything has been done to make Georgia an attractive and safe country during the main tourist season, he said.
“There has been a very difficult situation on the land borders recently in our neighboring countries. For example, in Turkey there is the South African strain of Covid-19, the Brazilian strain and the Indian strain.”

TBILISI, DFWatch–Georgia’s prime minister on Tuesday rejected the two main demands put forth by the opposition, thus prolonging the country’s four and a half months long political crisis.
“The next parliamentary elections will be held in 2024,” Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said at a meeting of the EU-Georgia Association Council in Brussels.
Based on what the international observers found, he added, it is clear the parliamentary elections on October 31, 2020 were free and fair, and therefore early elections – the main demand of the opposition – is not on the agenda.
Locals in Gali, Abkhazia demand lifting of 5-day Covid-19 quarantine for crossing Enguri Bridge

GALI, DFWatch–Gali residents demand the opening of the checkpoint on Enguri Bridge and the lifting of the five-day quarantine for travelers that have been tested for Covid-19.
Locals told DFWatch that because of the quarantine requirement, many people have resorted to a dangerous route, wading through the surging Enguri river at the so-called black crossing, bypassing the checkpoint.
Only certain categories of people are currently allowed to cross the administrative borderline. This includes pensioners, parents of many children and people with disabilities. However, only those in need of emergency medical care can cross without having to go into quarantine.
