Last April, the Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association, a group of U.S. cabinet producers including MasterBrand, won one of the largest anti-dumping cases ever brought against China.
The ITC unanimously found injury to the U.S. cabinet industry, and Commerce imposed duties of 70 percent on Chinese imports of cabinets and vanities.
The year-long case had concluded.
But it was only a matter of time before a new problem would materialize.
Some importers are now evading duties by transshipping cabinets through Malaysia, Vietnam, and Indonesia, according to MasterBrand. There has been a massive surge in illegal transshipments to avoid the AD/CVD duties, said Wiley Rein s Tim Brightbill, an attorney working for MasterBrand. We have seen increases of cabinet imports from countries like Vietnam, Malaysia, and Indonesia of 1000 percent or more.

SOUDERTON, PA
Halkett Woodworking said its 18,000 sq. ft. woodshop will serve as CNC Factory s East Coast showroom, demonstrating the new line of 5th generation woodworking machines designed and engineered in Santa Ana, CA. Sara Halkett, owner of Halkett Woodworking, said the unveiling has been planned for about a year, and now that the country is opening for commerce, the increase in interest has brought the opportunity to fruition. We have had a noticeable increase in customers wanting to see how CNC Factory’s 5th generation equipment works at our shop in Pennsylvania,” Halkett says. “Since we are producing cabinets with them every day, it s a great opportunity for us to show how easy it is to operate, and how durable and precise each machine performs.
