MURRAY â It will be about two weeks before an official cause of death is determined in the case of a fatal shooting that occurred Monday in Calloway County.
On Wednesday, Calloway County Coroner Ricky Garland said an autopsy examination was performed Tuesday afternoon at the Kentucky State Medical Examinerâs Office in Madisonville. He said preliminary results show that a gunshot wound to the chest of a man identified as Luis Mancilla Jr., 53, of Murray, is believed to be the cause of death, but that the medical examiner handling the case wants to see the results of toxicology tests before officially determining that finding.
COLDWATER â The Calloway County Sheriffâs Office announced Tuesday that family members of a man who died Monday afternoon following a shooting in northwestern Calloway County were located.
In a news release, CCSO Chief Deputy Sheriff Jody Cash said the Calloway County Coronerâs Office was able to make contact with family members of a man identified as Luis A. Mancilla Jr. sometime on Tuesday. This came after an extensive effort had been made to notify family members with the public, as well as the Kentucky State Police Intelligence participating as well.
In an earlier release, Cash said it was believed that Mancillaâs family resided in California. He was shot outside a residence along Cook Store Trail near Coldwater at about 12:30 Monday afternoon and later died at Murray-Calloway County Hospital. As of Tuesday evening. no charges had been filed in the shooting and the investigation was continuing.

CALLOWAY COUNTY, Ky. (KFVS) - One man is dead after a shooting in western Kentucky.
The Calloway County Sheriff’s Office identified the man on Tuesday as Luis A. Mancilla, Jr.
The coroner’s office was trying to find his relatives, who were believed to all live in California. By Tuesday afternoon, the coroner’s office was able to contact them.
On Monday, December 21 around 12:30 p.m., deputies responded to the 2800 block of Cook Store Trail for a reported shooting.
UPDATE 12/22 at 8:22 a.m.: The Calloway County Sheriff s Office says the name of the man who was shot and killed Monday afternoon is Luis A. Mancilla, Jr.Â
The Calloway County Coroner s Office is still trying to find Mancilla s relatives, which are believed to all live in California.Â
