News Tuesday 25th May 2021 Our Rural Future: Ministers Humphreys, McConalogue and Hackett announce final call for applications to the LEADER Food Initiative €5 million fund aimed at artisan, micro and small food businesses Funding will help artisan, micro and small food businesses to respond to challenges posed by Brexit and COVID-19 LEADER programme a key plank of ‘Our Rural Future’ Small food businesses are today (Tuesday, May 25th) being encouraged to apply for funding under the LEADER Food Initiative – a €5 million investment aimed at assisting businesses to deal with the challenges posed by Brexit and COVID-19. The final call for applications was made by Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys, Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Charlie McConalogue and Minister of State for Land Use and Biodiversity, Pippa Hackett.

Minister Humphreys highlights the responsibilities of dog owners this lambing season Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD, has today Friday, 5 February) highlighted the responsibilities of dog owners and the vulnerability of sheep to dog attacks, particularly during lambing season. Minister Humphreys said dog attacks cause real and serious injury to sheep and can have a negative impact, both financially and emotionally, on the farmers involved and their families. While the vast majority of dog owners act responsibility, the issue of animals being attacked has been raised in many parts of the country. Some 253 incidences of ‘Livestock Worrying’ were reported to local authorities in 2019.
