Local Government Week in Federation Council
Local Government Week offers the chance to reflect on the major role Federation Council plays in improving and maintaining our region as a place to live, work and visit.
The theme for this year’s Local Government Week is ‘Locally Led’, highlighting the services in which Federation Council offers and hosts within the community to drive local economic recovery and community togetherness.
Federation Council Mayor, Councillor Patrick Bourke said many people know that Federation Council is responsible for local roads, rates and rubbish, but some are unaware of the many other services Council provides.
Grant applications open Aug. 2 and close at 5 p.m. on Sept. 13.
A northern Illinois foundation is opening grant applications for qualified nonprofit organizations in certain sectors for its Community Grants Program. It’s looking to award more than $1.4 million for the 2021 grant cycle.
The Community Foundation of Northern Illinois will have informational meetings for some 501(c)(3) nonprofits interested in applying for the funds.
Dan Ross is the president of the foundation. He said the sessions are needed for those who have never applied for a grant before.
“And so, it s a great way for them to just learn about the process and learn about what might be involved with it,” he said. “And it s also a good way for them to interact with others that in their field or in the nonprofit community that might be doing the same thing.”
The Community Grant program is made possible by generous donors who have contributed unrestricted and broadly defined interest area gifts. The dollars are used to respond to current community challenges and to embrace emerging opportunities. The following Community Grant awards were recently made:
• $10,000 to Conserving Carolina to support strategic planning
• $6,300 to Creating a Family to support the development and distribution of resource kits to
grandparent-led families in Henderson County
• $3,800 to Environmental Educators of North Carolina to support Henderson County teachers in attending the Southeastern Environmental Education Alliance conference
• $10,000 to Henderson County Cooperative Extension to support the renovation and transformation of the kitchen in the Extension Center into a teaching kitchen.
