The Sioux City police officer seen aiming a Taser at a Black customer at a Perkins restaurant late last month has a history of involvement in use of force incidents.
More than 5,000 people have signed a petition calling for Officer Thad Boyer to be removed from duty, as the officer rehired in 2019 after brutally beating a man in 2004 was captured pushing a Black man into a table and threatening to Tase him at a Perkins restaurant on April 29.
Footage of the encounter was shared widely on social media, and shows Boyer confronting the customer, identified as 29-year-old John Wright.

West Clare woman becomes deputy Garda commissioner

A KILMURRY McMahon native has been appointed as one of two new deputy commissioners of An Garda Síochána.
Anne Marie McMahon was appointed to the role on an interim basis last March and, now that she had been formally appointed, makes history as one of the highest ranking female members of the force.
Ms McMahon joined the Gardai in 1986 and was stationed at Coolock Garda Station, Dublin and Henry Street in Limerick.
In the early ‘90s, she served with a United Nations mission in Cambodia and in 1995 was promoted to sergeant and instructor at the Student Probationer School, Garda College. Between 1997 and 2002, she served as Operational /Community Policing Sergeant in Henry Street District.

Police Chief Paul Ferreira has announced two promotions to the rank of Assistant Chief.
According to a press release from The Hawaiiʻi Police Department, effective February 1, 2021, Chad Basque, a 30-year veteran of the department, now commands the Area II Field Operations Bureau, encompassing the department’s west Hawai‘i districts. Basque’s former assignments were as a patrol officer in the North Kohala and Kona districts, Kona Community Policing Officer, Patrol Sergeant and Community Policing Sergeant in Kona, Kona Patrol Lieutenant, Ka‘u and Kona Districts Patrol Captain, the Area II Criminal Investigation Division Captain, previously holding the Area II Field Operations Bureau Major and subsequent Acting Assistant Chief positions.
