SINGAPORE - A show-flat for Singapore s first assisted-living public housing is now open at HDB Hub, a week ahead of schedule.
Located in Bukit Batok West Avenue 9, the Community Care Apartments are targeted at those aged 65 and above who wish to live on their own and yet enjoy some care, support and communal activities.
On Tuesday (Dec 29), seniors who visited the show-flat told The Straits Times that they were attracted to the new concept, which allows them to forge close relationships with other people in their age group.
Part-time waiter Tan Soon Huat, 67, who made a trip specifically to visit the show-flat, said the 32 sq m unit is the perfect size for him and his wife.

SINGAPORE: A new type of public housing with elderly-friendly features and subscription to care services would be an effective way to fulfil the different needs of seniors under one roof, experts told CNA on Monday (Dec 14).
It was announced last week that the Housing and Development Board (HDB) flats in Bukit Batok, known as Community Care Apartments, target home buyers aged 65 and above who want to live on their own but receive care if needed.
HDB’s new Community Care Apartments vs Two-room Flexi Flats: Which is better?
On 10 December 2020, HDB revealed more details about a new model of assisted living for seniors aged 65 and above, called Community Care Apartments.
The first such project, to be released in February 2021’s Build-to-Order (BTO) sales exercise and completed by 2024, will be located at Bukit Batok and comprise of 160 units to be sold on short-leases of 15 to 35 years.
The concept of assisted living isn’t new. The idea is that seniors within an assisted living development will have their own individual apartments, whilst having easy access to a suite of on-demand services including personal care, laundry and meal provision.
