Joy Barua began his new role as the Deputy Director with the City & County of Honolulu’s Dept. of Community Services (DCS) on February 1. Previously, Barua served as the Senior Director of Government & Community Relations, and Community Benefit for Kaiser Permanente.
DCS oversees programs to meet an array of needs for economically challenged individuals in Honolulu. DCS’s website states:
“DCS administers programs to meet the human services, workforce and housing needs of economically challenged individuals and families with special needs in the City and County of Honolulu. The department also administers state and federal funds intended to facilitate community and economic development for economically challenged neighborhoods and communities.”

Emerald Fire Brigade is among 170 brigades benefiting from the Ritchies IGA Community Benefit Program.
The brigade has received more than $220,000 towards new equipment over the past 28 years thanks to locals nominating them for donations through the Community Benefit Program.
Emerald Captain Paul Yandle said, “The ongoing funding and support from Ritchies has allowed us to provide a better level of service to our community by allowing us to invest in new vehicles, which not only helped us in the operational work but also in community education and engagement.

SAN DIEGO, Feb. 4, 2021 /PRNewswire/ Borrego, a leading developer, EPC and O&M provider for large-scale renewable energy projects throughout the United States, today announced it has been selected to develop a 110 MW-AC utility-scale solar project as part of the solicitation for large-scale renewables by New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). The Rutland Center Solar 1 project will be Borrego s largest development announced to date.
The award was one of 20 solar projects awarded as part of NYSERDA s efforts to develop more than two gigawatts of new renewable energy capacity throughout New York State. It will be sited in National Grid territory in the north of the state, in the towns of Rutland and Watertown in Jefferson County, and will produce enough energy to power nearly 11,000 homes.

A top New York energy and environment official who worked on her state’s drive for offshore wind energy, now director of the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, announced Wednesday the federal agency is resuming its environmental review of the Vineyard Wind project.
“Offshore wind has the potential to help our nation combat climate change, improve resilience through reliable power, and spur economic development to create good-paying jobs,” Amanda Lefton, formerly first assistant secretary for energy and environment in New York State. “BOEM is committed to conducting a robust and timely review of the proposed project.”
