Growing Women in Agriculture: An Empowerment Celebration

The Shelby County Growing Women in Agriculture committee is thrilled to bring back the Empowerment Celebration in 2021. The committee’s goal is to grow women involved in the agriculture community in our area. Since 2007 the number of women in agriculture has increased by 7% in the United States. With this evolving statistic in the industry, many new avenues for our community and state have developed in order to take advantage of these rising agriculture leaders.  As a part of their efforts to grow the agriculture community in Shelby County would like to support local women in agriculture by holding our sixth annual “Growing Women in Agriculture, an Empowerment Celebration” event on Sept. 16, 2021, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm, the early make and take session starts at 4:30 pm. Urban soil health group, community garden to educate with free event

(WTWO/WAWV) – If you’re interested in learning about gardening or how to improve your skills, an upcoming workshop will be able to help. PHISH stands for People Helping Improve Soil Health. It’s a local urban soil health working group. In late August the group will partner with the ISU Community Gardens for a free gardening program. It will feature educational booths about gardening, composting, a live demo about cover crops and more. PHISH Chairman Paul Pendergast says they also want to raise awareness about the community garden as well as how PHISH can help your gardening efforts.
