Date Time Success of DVproject:2650 leads to community action A three-year project aimed at preventing domestic and family violence in Wagga Wagga and promoting gender equality has been hailed a success which has provided a foundation for more community action. Designed as a grassroots primary initiative, theDVproject:2650 was a partnership between the Wagga Women’s Health Centre and Wagga Wagga City Council which finished on 30 June this year. The project, which was funded by the NSW Department of Communities and Justice’s Domestic and Family Violence Innovation Fund, was focused on creating attitudinal change within the community. Council’s Director Community Janice Summerhayes said its success was achieved through primary prevention activities such as policy review, training and educational workshops, presentations, major community advertising and messaging campaigns, development and distribution of supporting resources and targeted community projects.

Wiradjuri artists unveil new Riverside artwork

Date Time Wiradjuri artists unveil new Riverside artwork An artwork created by professional Wiradjuri artists Owen Lyons and Teisha Robinson will feature prominently beside the Riverside basketball court which is set to undergo a major upgrade. The artwork will be reproduced on a vinyl wrap and installed on a modified shipping container, to be located alongside two new 3×3 basketball courts, and to be utilised at competitions and other events at the Wagga Beach precinct during the year. The new courts will be built to Olympic standard in place of the current full-size asphalt court and feature the Federation Internationale de Basketball Amateur (FIBA) approved rubber playing surface.

Bald Archy collection donated to museum

Date Time Bald Archy collection donated to museum A collection of satiric portraits from the unique Bald Archy Prize art exhibition will be donated to Council’s Museum of the Riverina. Council this week agreed to the offer of donation from the estate of the exhibition founder the late Peter Batey OAM which consists of 27 winning portraits acquired from previous exhibitions which first started in 1994. Part of accepting the donation included Council agreeing to administer a future annual acquisitive Bald Archy Prize Art exhibition and related tour in memory of Mr Batey, who passed away in 2019, and acquire the future winning artworks to add to the permanent collection holding.
