Guest Profile: Reverend Vivian Nixon Reverend Vivian D. Nixon is Executive Director of College & Community Fellowship (CCF) a New York City organization that helps women and families most harmed by mass criminalization gain equitable access to opportunity and human rights. Reverend Nixon identifies herself as a joyfully Black woman whose release from correctional oversight gave rise to a search for true liberation and guided her academic and career choices. Her work at CCF, and beyond, advances justice through economic and social equity, anti-racism, civic engagement, and artistic expression. Instructed and ordained in the African Methodist Episcopal Church, Reverend Nixon has an MFA from Columbia School of the Arts, and currently teaches at Bennington College’s Center for the Advancement of Public Action. East Clackamas warming shelters open, but not in all areas Sandy, Estacada homeless population will have to travel to seek warmth amid winter weather conditions As temperatures are expected to drop this week, many without housing in the Sandy and Estacada areas are seeking shelter. At Estacada Food Bank, at least 32 of their regular customers are people who are homeless and have been camping in neighboring wooded areas for some semblance of shelter. Additionally, 20 customers live in vehicles and 28 customers categorized themselves as unhoused. In Sandy, the city has seen an increase in people who are homeless coming in during the pandemic, but Kirsten Pitzer with the Sandy Community Action Center says because of a lack of warming shelters nearby, she suspects those folks bus out of town on the weekends to the Portland metro area where warming shelters are more plentiful.

Community Cooperative needs volunteers | News, Sports, Jobs

As the need continues to rise in the community for food services, Community Cooperative is seeking volunteers to help with its Meals on Wheels and mobile pantries in Lehigh Acres. Chief Development & Operating Officer Stefanie Ink Edwards said both food and monetary donations, as well as volunteerism, is how they survive and are able to provide the services they do for the community. Without those three ingredients they could not support Southwest Florida the way they do. Community Cooperative is extremely active in the Lehigh community and are in need of more volunteers. “Sometimes it is really hard to get a good base of volunteers,” she said.
