Po Too knows what it’s like to come to America for the first time.
She’s experienced the struggles of adjusting to a language barrier, a different culture and unfamiliar surroundings.
Too, 28, first came to Wisconsin 14 years ago. She and her family fled Burma, now Myanmar, and spent years in a refugee camp before she found herself in Milwaukee.

Too, 28, first came to Wisconsin 14 years ago. She and her family fled Burma, now Myanmar, and spent years in a refugee camp before she found herself in Milwaukee.
Now, Too spends her time working to help refugees as a bilingual community health worker for Advocate Aurora, serving the Karen community in southeastern Wisconsin. Karen refers to a group of people from a specific region in Burma.
“I believe I can be a voice for them,” Too said.

th Winter Meeting, go to mayors who initiate exceptional programs to enhance health, wellness and environmental quality of life in American cities in ways that help children and families thrive.
HACC to launch 100% online community health worker program

The CHW program is accredited through the Pennsylvania Certification Board, according to a press release.
Vic Rodgers, vice president of workforce development, said, “Currently, there are over 400 job openings in Pennsylvania for community health workers. HACC has designed an educational program that satisfies Pennsylvania Certification Board requirements and meets a need in the community.”
HACC’s program includes lecture and clinical opportunities and covers six major areas: health care, social services, communication skills, health education, and individual and community advocacy.
Upon completion of the program, individuals may apply for professional certification as a CHW, the release said.

Pennsylvania-based retail chain Weis Markets announced Wednesday that it would begin vaccinating patients in 55 of its in-store pharmacies starting January 21.
The supermarket chain cited Center for Disease Control guidelines and state Health Department guidance to begin vaccinating patients aged 65 or older.
