(ABC 6 News) - The Mason City fire department is one of 250 departments nationwide nominated to participate in the second phase of a community risk reduction pilot program put on by the national fire protection association.
The Community Risk Assessment pilot program involves collecting data like infrastructure, demographics and event history, and submitting it to an online dashboard.
It is designed to help fire departments and their local partners.
The Mason City department is one of eight departments in Iowa participating and it lasts three to four months. We have a lot of different elements that we need to look at but hopefully we can pair those down to what the highest risk for us and being able to combat those one at a time and do some sort of a risk reduction program for each element and should save us a lot of time and money involved to tackle each one of those, said Chief Erik Bullinger, Mason City
