Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has asked the officials to accord high priority on any file related to health to augment the state’s fight against the COVID pandemic. Taking a review of the works of the Finance Department where State Finance Minister Ajanta Neog was also present at the conference hall of the Finance Department, Chief Minister Dr Sarma asked the department to accord high priority to the files and dispose of them expeditiously to strengthen the government’s pro-active guards against the Corona pandemic.

GUWAHATI: Assam logged 5,657 new Covid-19 cases and 71 deaths on Wednesday as chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma assigned different districts to his ministers for continuous monitoring of the situation and ensuring the required guidance to district administrations.
The test positivity rate on Wednesday was 8.86%, which was lower than Tuesday s. Similarly, the new cases recorded during the day was also lower than that of the previous day. Tuesday saw the biggest single-day spike of 85 deaths.
In these first 12 days of the current month, over 56,000 new cases have been recorded while the fatality count is 602.
The state government has claimed that there was no shortage of testing kits
GUWAHATI: With the surge in Covid-19 cases across Assam, the state government has decided to ramp up testing. However, officials of two districts have alleged that they have run out of testing kits due to supply crunch.
According to the Nagaon district health official, the district exhausted all its available Covid-19 testing kits on Friday as it did not receive the supply of the kits immediately and supposedly could not conduct Covid-19 tests almost throughout the day. “We have already informed about the stocks of testing kits with state authorities.
